It's All About the Boots Now

Buen dia!
I have been home for four days and am loving the balmy Mexico weather after a week in Breckenridge, Colorado with KD.
Below is this morning's gorgeous sunrise.

Breckenridge is not only a snow covered little fairy land covered with thousands of tiny white lights, it is also a ten thousand foot wonder land of lodge pole pines, cedar, fir and aspen. The photo below is what I woke to each morning. It is both breath taking and breathless. The scenery is magical but I was out of breath the moment I hit Denver. By Day Four I was somewhat acclimated, but it was often a real effort to get out of the car and into Starbucks.

Here is the Breckenridge Starbucks. Like most of the businesses, it is an older Victorian house with fireplaces and wood floors. I loved going in here every morning with KD, plugging in her lap top and making wedding plans. There were also a few nights when she went to the gym and I hunkered down in an overstuffed chair by the fire with a few other late night regulars. I don't think they came to know me by my drink though, instead it was my 1980's dark green Columbia jacket which really stood out against all the beautiful snug and sexy ski parkas in there. When we weren't busy discovering how to make paper flowers, looking at table top arrangements, or reading about baking a high altitude four level cake, an idea we decided to ditch by the way, we were taking in the sights. Below we are on the gondola which got stuck on the cable for about half an hour. KD joked about the unlucky person at the top who could not make it out the gondola door in time, until I reminded her of the day she could not get off the lift at Whistler and rode the chair around the turn and had to jump off into snow over her seven year old head. Then we laughed and the gondola suddenly lurched forward on its merry way.

We shopped all the Main Street stores where I fell in love with cowboy boots but wisely decided against paying four hundred for a pair when I live in leather country and can get a smart green pair for less than fifty.

We made several trips to the outdoor church where KD and Darin will get married in July. Nestled under the tall evergreen trees, a small wooden platform seems to float in the ankle deep snow. Concrete benches curve into an amphitheater covered in marshmallow white drifts and a bubbling creek runs through the bowl and under the platform to the sparkling river. It is a lovely setting in the winter and I look forward to seeing it in summer, too.

On Saturday, late in the afternoon and half way through the third appointment in Denver, she said yes to the dress. When she came out of the dressing room (and by now everyone was watching her on her fifth dress), not an eye was dry. It was pretty obvious the dress was made just for her and her own sparkling eyes left no doubt.

I can tell you this much. Yes, she is wearing those cowboy boots with her dress and yes, her bridesmaids are wearing their cowboy boots and I am still on the fence, thinking yes, I can wear cowboy boots, no I can't, yes, I can. I will let you know which way I fall..........

Que le vaya bien!!!!!

March Christmas

Buen Dia!
We have just returned from the Rocky Mountains.
KD met us at the airport with a wonderful surprise in tow............Ian.............I cried, it was so unexpected.
So the four of us had a cold and snowy visit!

It was a March Christmas. KD still had her Christmas tree up. All of the mountain towns must have known we were coming because they still had their lights and decorations up as well.

KD lives at over 9,500 feet. I have not been that high since 1983, when I climbed Mount Ranier (did not make it to the top), and had to overnight at over 10,000.
During this Colorado visit, I lagged behind on all of our day trips; I was breathless going up and down KD's condo stairs. I was deep breathing just opening the fridge.

We took a few day trips, among them were visits to Vail and Brekenridge.
A day was spent skiing by Senor and KD at Vail, after Ian had to head back to Seattle for a snowboard event at the Pass.
Great memories came to Senor who spent many winters in high school and college skiing Vail, which was much smaller, and cheaper, in the 60's and 70's. As a Colorado College student, Senor was invited into the dean's office for a visit .........study or ski............said the dean. Senor took off a year, lived off peanut butter and out of dingy basement rooms, but he got in a year of good skiing and then returned and graduated.

Okay, this is all I have time for.
We are on our way to Bisbee, Arizona, with Senor's brother and his wife (our Copper Canyon traveling companions) and then we will return to Tucson later in the week.
What a great Christmas!

Back Home from Colorado

Hola!

We returned home last Thursday........to mucho calor (heat). I had to fire some custom glass orders Saturday and Sunday, both at midnight, to avoid adding 1,550 degrees of calor to the calor.

Yesterday we packed up and went to the beach, where it was very windy and twenty degrees cooler. Maybe I will adjust by Wednesday or Thursday.

Colorado weather was cool and cloudy.
By Friday afternoon, graduating students began receiving emails telling them and their families to dress warmly, prepare for thunder and lightning and that while there was not an inside facility large enough to accommodate the expected crowd, graduation would proceed. KD said last year's weather was so bad, the university cancelled graduation and there were some very unhappy parents. So, they were not about to cancel this year just because the forecast called for a huge storm and 57 degree temperatures.

At 10:30pm on Friday, Bill and I were scrambling around town, looking for a couple of travel size blankets and umbrellas. I found some ugly, but heavy, black tights at the supermarket.

At 8am on Saturday, we were at the stadium, which was already half filled for the 10am ceremony.

We had on our fleece jackets, and our blankets were wrapped around us. Most of the parents looked just like us. But as I watched the stands fill up, I saw alot of young ladies wearing sleeveless sundresses and young guys in polo shirts and shorts..........it was freezing.
Bill went and bought a cup of coffee at the concession stand, he hates coffee.

Graduation lasted four hours.....four really long hours because by 10am, the clouds went away.
The sun came out.
The wind died.
It was mucho calor.
I wanted to rip those ugly heavy black tights off and about 11am I went to the restroom, did that and threw them in the garbage....................

Above, Hour One, a sea of blue, about 2,000 graduates.

Below, Hour Two, our daughter stands, facing right in the lower right of the photo, with her college, to line up for the podium.
Below, Hour Three, our daughter and two of her friends have had enough of the gown, off with it, they say! Finally, Hour Four, some can no longer tolerate the heat and the stands empty a little and the tassles are turned and the caps are tossed. We are done.

Proud father and daughter..............
Let the parties begin.

At 10pm, we have made it through all the parties and events we have the energy for and beg to go back to the hotel so we can watch the food channel.
KD continues through the night and we pick her up at her apartment at 9am for our Mothers' Day trip to Estes Park. She sleeps in the back seat of the car as we drive through the steep canyons and along the rushing Big Thompson. Slowly, on the twisting, winding road we ascend to a cool weather elevation, and when we get out of the car at the Stanley Hotel, I think for a second about those ugly, heavy black tights.
Below, proud mother and daughter.............
After brunch, we take a very scenic drive through Estes Park.................
The following day we fit in a last round of frisbee golf on campus, taking KD's dog, Tulo, and her roommate's dog, Brodie, along to chase lost frisbees and squirrels.

below, frisbees make great water dishes for tired dogs..............

we had a great trip...........tomorrow i want to tell you about our border crossing and our fm3 renewal.....adios..............linda lou
