Senor's Corn

Senor has treated his Minnesota sweet corn like a baby. When he found a well eaten cob in the yard he almost broke down and cried like a baby.
So, it was a wonderful thing when he got four nice healthy ears of corn. Two we gently dropped into hot water. The other two we scraped into a salad. They were wonderful! Very sweet!

Now his tomatoes have gone crazy. He has hundreds of teeny tiny green and bright red tomatoes and one enormous plant that he seeded from the seven foot tall tomato plant that grew on the portal.
The arugula has now bolted in the heat, and the last of the butter leaf lettuce and spinach were treats for Humberto and his family last week. The peas and beans are gone, both were a little stringy, so we don't miss them. Parsley is still abundant and waiting to go into a chimichurri mix and the carrots are still burrowing underground.
He says this has been a great experiment and is already thinking about adding on to the garden and what he will put into it.

We are trying to get out of town. We have a road trip planned, but we have a very sick cat. Cookies has some unexplained puncture wounds that I will not describe in detail, so we are off to the vet to see what we need to do. Cats are so easy to leave behind when you take a trip. With the help of a neighbor and Humberto, Cookies is always fine when we leave and madder than heck at us when we return. We will see how things go.
Que le vaya bien!

And there is nothing more sweet than home grown vegetables picked from your garden. I am envious of your home grown corn, we can't really grow it with any success in the UK.

We used to worry about the pups on the countryside of Spain, lots of beasties to do them harm, I hope Cookies is OK.

Hi Jacqui, Cookies just got 2 shot needles of antibiotic and he has already perked up. It is a bad skin wound, but the vet thinks it will heal fast and our neighbor who cares for him when we are gone is so good to Cookies, so I think he will be just fine.

Tell Senor that if I would have seen that corn first he would never have known it existed lol. LOVE corn on the cob !!!

Poor Cookies, is that why he was missing in action that day or did it happen later?

Hope he recovers quickly.

Have a safe and wonderful trip north.

Hi Brenda,
Not sure where he was when you were here, but it happened about 3 days ago, we think. Yep, it was good, good corn. he tells me he plans to buy a little electric fence in Tucson. I can't tell if he is joking or not!!

Hmmmm, electric fence eh? I may have to re-think my new career of sweet corn thief lol.

There are some ladies here at the Mercado that sell sweet corn from about Dec. to March. It is good; but not as good as the corn up north.

Those pictures of him with the corn are hilarious !!

You got corn - yippee! It will be really interesting to see if the tomato plant from the seeds of the one on the patio produces like it's mom did. Save us some seeds!

Hope Cookies recovers quickly from the cat fight.

Besitos,
Yennifer
